Live-in Care vs. Hourly Care:

Making the Most of Your Care at Home

Aging in place takes support. One place support can be found is having a caregivers come to your home to offer a range of assistance depending on your needs. Assistance might include help around the house, transportation, supervision, and personal care. A Homemade Plan offers trusted home care in two ways, on an hourly basis or through live-in care.

Hourly Care

Hourly care provides caregivers through an hour-by-hour service. This can range from four hours shifts two days a week, all the way up to 24/7 care. For those that don’t need 24/7, but do need some assistance, hourly care can be a great way to create a flexible schedule built around your needs.  Starting off slow, with shorter shifts, can also be a way to help your loved one adjust to the idea of someone else being involved in their day-to-day life.

24/7 Around the Clock Hourly Care

When someone is receiving 24/7 around the clock hourly care, they will have a variety of caregivers. During the night, the caregiver is generally expected to be awake and offer supervision and assistance throughout the night as needed. Hourly care is billed simply per the hour.

Live-in Care

Live-in care is when a Caregiver lives in the home of your loved one and is a cost-effective way to have a Caregiver in the home 24 hours a day. While there is a cost to any kind of home care, live-in generally comes out to be less expensive than 24/7 around the clock hourly care. A live-in caregiver is provided with a private room and bathroom. They are provided down time, and time to get a full night’s rest. The caregiver provides the same services as an hourly caregiver, and has the same qualifications, but also offers more structure and stability.

For someone planning to age in place, home care is the solution, whether it’s hourly or live-in. If you’re wondering if live-in care is right for your loved one, please contact us at A Homemade Plan by calling 888-610-2643 to learn more about your care options in Maryland.
